Dr. Hussain Khan is a consultant Sport and Exercise Physician with a clinical interest in knee injury and osteoarthritis. Dr. Khan completed his PhD in 2017, his research centred around the early diagnosis and management of knee osteoarthritis. Since then, Hussain has remained involved in academia, publishing articles investigating the hereditary nature, imaging techniques and prevention of knee osteoarthritis.
In addition, Dr. Khan is the Head Doctor of Melbourne Victory Football Club and a medical officer for Hawthorn AFL team where he manages a range of injuries. He also works as a consultant for Cricket Australia’s men’s team including multiple overseas tours. Dr. Khan has a keen interest in helping patients manage chronic diseases with exercise medicine.
He can help patients manage metabolic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes through physical activity and help them live longer and healthier lives.
Born and raised in Pakistan, Hussain moved to Australia in 2012. After finishing his medical degree, Hussain spent three years working as a junior doctor in emergency medicine, trauma, and rehabilitation medicine. He then went on to attain a PhD from the University of Tasmania investigating osteopathy in the knee.
As a cricket fanatic, working with the Pakistani and Australian National Cricket Teams has been a highlight of Hussain’s career thus far. His experience in this area positions him as the perfect practitioner to rehabilitate low back stress fractures, soft tissues strains and overuse of the shoulder – all common injuries in cricket.
Hussain also works as a researcher, contributing key literature to the field of knee osteopathy. Outside of work, you will find Hussain playing cricket with his local team, playing squash, or going for bike rides with his family.
