Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about Melbourne CBD Physio & Our clinic

Yes you can. All of our practitioners are qualified to liaise with WorkSafe Victoria and TAC to expertly guide you through your claim.

We are experienced in liaising with Case Managers and compiling the multitude of paperwork required to begin, continue and extend your claim. Just bring your claim number with you and we will invoice the insurance company directly.

WorkSafe and TAC set maximum rates they will pay per appointment. As such, there is a small gap fee associated with these appointments.

Read more on WorkSafe and TAC appointments.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your first appointment. This allows time to complete a short new patient form about your injury. If you have any paperwork related to your appointment, please bring these with you as they can provide very useful context for your practitioner. This may include scans, reports, referrals, doctor’s letters or clinical notes from a previous physiotherapist.

As we are based in the heart of the CBD, please allow extra time to find a park if travelling by car. Read more on the best places to park around Melbourne CBD Physio.

This is a difficult question to answer as every individual’s response and journey through physiotherapy is different. Recovery timelines and your ability to respond to treatment is entirely unique so it is difficult for your practitioner to put a time stamp on your time with us. As you establish your goals for treatment, your practitioner will be able to provide more insight as to how many sessions they estimate.

At Melbourne CBD Physio, we are committed to delivering Excellence, Experience and Results. We firmly believe in educating our clients with empathy and honesty, with the aim of helping you towards your goals as soon as possible.

At Melbourne CBD Physio we always try to accommodate you as soon as possible. In some cases we can offer same-day appointments. You can see all available appointments with every practitioner in the online booking portal. If you need an urgent appointment and are struggling to find a time that works for you, just contact us and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing that is appropriate for the area that needs to be assessed. For most patients, this just means a comfortable t-shirt and shorts. You are more than welcome to use our facilities to get changed before your appointment in colder months. Don’t worry if you forget, we have shorts you can borrow.

For Exercise Physiology appointments, it is a good idea to wear clothes and shoes that are appropriate to exercise in.

No, you don’t need a referral. We are a private practice, so you can make an appointment for any reason and at any time. Our practitioners are qualified allied health professionals, which means you can visit them without seeing your doctor first. Some patients are referred to us via their GPs and specialists, but it is not required.

We are open weekdays Monday to Friday 7am – 7pm. You can contact us here if we are unable to recieve your enquiry.

Questions about Physiotherapy

Melbourne CBD Physio provides leading physiotherapy care for every patient.

All of our physiotherapists carry postgraduate qualifications, making them some of the most experienced and trusted in Melbourne. In your consultation your physiotherapist will ensure that you are the centre of attention. They will listen and address your needs and work with you to formulate treatment goals to maximise your time with us.

Initial Consultation (30 mins): $135 – $160

Review Consultation (30 mins): $135 – $160

Long Consultation (60 mins): $260 – $280

Both Initial and Follow Up sessions are 30 minutes long.

You can also choose a 60 minute Long Consultation if you:

  • Would like additional information and time with your physiotherapist
  • Have multiple areas of concern
  • Your pain or injury has a long history or is particularly complex

This depends on your treatment plan and personal preferences for treatment. A large part of physiotherapy and exercise physiology is education and lifestyle modification, helping you to be an agent in your own health and build the confidence and independence to return to full function.

Consistency is key and this means that you may have exercises to work on between appointments. We will make sure your program is clear, realistic and appropriate to your current stage of rehabilitation.

Our practitioners are always available to support and answer questions you have about your progress or exercises between appointments. Contact us today to get in touch with your treating physiotherapist.

A physiotherapist is a qualified and registered allied health professional. A physiotherapist can help you recover from injury, reduce pain, increase mobility, restore function and reduce the risk of recurring injuries. They will make an accurate diagnosis and use evidence based treatments to establish an individual plan for you to move towards your goals. Treatment can vary depending on the assessment, your goals and personal preferences.

Physiotherapists can diagnose and manage a broad range of conditions with the bones, muscles, cardiovascular system, nerves and other parts and systems of the body. Our physiotherapy team at Melbourne CBD Physio are experts in sports and musculoskeletal injuries.

Questions about Exercise Physiology

Before joining a class, you will first have a private consultation with our Exercise Physiologist (sometimes called an ‘EP’), Steph Tucker to plan an evidence based exercise program for you.

Your program takes into account your current health and fitness levels, your goals for Exercise Physiology, the challenges you’re working with, your lifestyle and the type of movement you find most enjoyable.

Your EP uses their clinical knowledge of acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries, disabilities and general health to plan your program tailored to you.

You can use our online booking system to book into a Group Exercise Class.

Group Exercise Classes are run by our Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Steph Tucker where groups of four work within their own individual programs and goals in a supportive and motivated environment. Classes are capped at four participants to ensure a fun, social and entirely supervised class time within our premium performance and rehabilitation gym.

Melbourne CBD Physio offers convenient class times before work, during lunch hours and evenings. You can choose to pay casually, or opt for 5 or 10-pack visit passes to make multiple visits more cost effective. All classes can be claimed through private health insurance if you have the appropriate cover for Exercise Physiology. Exercise Physiology is also a great option for those referred by their GP or via WorkSafe, TAC, Medicare or NDIS.

Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists are both university qualified allied health professionals. Accredited Exercise Physiologists (commonly known as AEP’s) use evidence-based exercise intervention for prevention and management of chronic disease, musculoskeletal injuries and weight management. There can be some confusion as both professions have a broad scope of practice with areas of crossover.

The main difference from Physiotherapy is that Exercise Physiology does not provide hands on treatment (eg. massage, joint manipulation, dry needling etc). An Exercise Physiologist uses exercise as their main treatment modality.

You can read more about the difference between Exercise Physiology and Physiotherapy here.

Exercise Physiologists specialise in using exercise and movement as an intervention for people with a broad range of health issues or sporting goals.

The aim of Exercise Physiology is to better the body through safe, effective, progress-driven exercise programs and interventions. Our focus at Melbourne CBD Physio is to help you develop healthy lifestyle behaviours for the prevention, management, treatment and improvement of a number of chronic health conditions, injuries and women’s health issues.

Exercise Physiology sessions in our boutique Melbourne gym are exercise-based and include health and physical activity education, advice and support and lifestyle modification with a strong focus on achieving behavioural change.

Questions about Myotherapy and Remedial Massage

Myotherapy and Remedial Massage is offered as a combined service. Myotherapy is available at convenient times before, during and after work hours.

30 Minutes: $90

60 Minutes: $130

If you have any questions about Myotherapy and Remedial Massage you can contact us here, or book your appointment via our online booking system.

Myotherapy and Remedial Massage is very adaptive depending on your goals for treatment. It can include relaxation massage, sports massage, lymphatic drainage, cupping, trigger point therapy, joint manipulation and general exercise prescription – which all draw on specific techniques.

Melbourne CBD Physio offers Myotherapy and Remedial Massage as a combined service, led by Myotherapist, Aris Hua. Learn more about Aris here.

Myotherapy and Remedial Massage can help break down muscle and fascial adhesions (commonly known as ‘knots’), which may be caused by heavy training and exercise periods or conversely a sedentary job.

Many athletes use manual therapy to keep niggles at bay during the training week, or fine tune their body pre-competition. Aside from athletes, patients gain a lot from the feeling and ongoing preventative treatment of standalone manual therapy. Myotherapy and Remedial Massage can also be used to help supplement the space between physio sessions and maintain muscle movement, mobility and function.
