Mr. Chris Hibbert is the longest standing team member at Melbourne CBD Physio and has spent more than 30 years working as a physiotherapist in the Melbourne CBD. Chris gained his undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy before specialising in Manipulative Therapy in which he achieved his graduate certificate. Chris also became a certified TPI physiotherapist after training in California, USA, which makes him our resident golfing clinician, skilled in golf biomechanics and all aspects of physiotherapy.
Golf biomechanics is a very niche area of physio, which is why Chris stands out as a physiotherapist in Melbourne. While golf is often thought of as a low impact sport, the large movements of the swing can have a big effect on the lower back, the neck, the shoulders, and the wrist. Through analysing and understanding these movements, Chris is well placed to treat and manage golf-related conditions and injuries that can cause spinal pain, as well as pain and discomfort in the elbow, shoulder, wrist, and hand.
An advocate for manipulative therapy, Chris often employs manual processes as a physiotherapist in Melbourne. While we’re proud of our state-of-the-art technology here at our Melbourne CBD Physio clinic, some pain is best managed through more traditional means. Chris delivers treatment using his hands, through massage and measured movement, placing pressure on the affected muscles and joints to reduce tension, minimise risk of spasm, and to improve joint function, flexibility, and movement.
Chris likes to keep busy, therefore it is no surprise that he also supports post-surgical patients through healing and recovery. Currently, Chris works alongside OrthoSport Victoria surgeon Mr. James Canty, a graduate of the University of Melbourne, and private practice orthopaedic surgeon Mr. John Salmon, who, like Chris, has a special interest in injuries to the shoulder, elbow, and wrist. Chris enjoys sharing knowledge with other professionals within the industry.
While Chris is proud to be a local physio, offering physiotherapy in the Melbourne CBD, he has gained experience as a physiotherapist all around the world. Previously, Chris has worked with renowned spinal surgeon Mr. John O’Brien in both Oswestry and at the London Clinic in the United Kingdom, and with rehabilitation specialist Mr. Vladimir Janda at the Charles University in Prague. However, as a football fan, one of his greatest achievements is as Head Physiotherapist for the Collingwood Football Club; ‘The Pies’.
Chris has always shown an interest in sports, which is what lead him towards sports physio in Melbourne. A former football player, Chris played A-grade amateur football when he was younger, although today he is very much a keen golfer; a sport that helps him to offer effective physio in the CBD not only for golfers, but also for other sports enthusiasts. Chris is an active member of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Black Rock, Victoria, and is proud of his rather impressive handicap of 9!
Chris welcomes patients at our Queen St. physio clinic, right in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. Physio appointments in Melbourne with Chris, or with any of our skilled physiotherapists in Melbourne — Adrianna, Todd, and Nick — can be booked online at a time that’s convenient for you. Chris and the team are committed to improving health and boosting overall wellbeing through the most effective physio in the Melbourne CBD, and are dedicated to finding the most suitable physio plans for each patient.
